She's ordained by 'Church of Universal Good Life'?!
Turns out this ministering group has been around for a while, and she's not the only 'notable' - take a look at a few of the 20 million ordained since 1959:
Milton Berle, ActorWait, what? The Tinman of OZ, and the King and Queen of Virgins? (Bolger, Branson & DDay) Why did they all join? (From wiki's list of ULC folks) Plus it turns out a friend who officiated at his son's wedding was actually 'ordained' this way too. (Hmm, any tax benefit from being a ULC minister?) At any rate, ULC makes money selling 'Civil Union' kits to their new ministers, only $89.

Too bad you can't make up your own religion.
ReplyDeleteI have my own religion: Katheism.
ReplyDeleteI was married by a member of the Universal Life Church - the son of a friend happened to be ordained, AND he was an Episcopal youth minister so he was able to borrow vestments from his church for the wedding. My mother wanted me to get married Catholic, but I wouldn't have any of it. She thought my "priest" was Episcopal, so she grudgingly accepted it.
We got married in my parent's living room, btw.
She'll get in trouble if she trys to get a taxbreak for being a minister - happend to this guy:
