A Round of Donuts

Have a ball, its Nat'l Donut Day!*
*oops, a day late, its really the 1st Fri in June.

Hey, lets make it a world-wide celebration, by trying out as many different doughnut versions as we can. Here's a few to get you started:

China - Jin deui (煎堆) - a hollow fried pastry made of sticky rice-flour, w/ a sweet filling

Finland - a Meat doughnut (Lihapiirakka)

France - Beignet - heavenly pockets of yeast dough, sugared
(also a New Orleans treat - that's where I had'm - yum!)

Greece - Loukoumades - donut balls dipped in honey & spices

and here's Japan's Karinto ...

Its deep-fried, of mostly flour, yeast, & brown sugar.
...no matter what it actually looks like....

Norway - Smultring, ("lard ring") donut-like but smaller

Peru - Picarones - a sweet, ring-shaped pumpkin fritter

South Asia - Paratha - fried bread, stuffed with vegetables

West Africa - Akara - fried dough made w/ black eyed peas

Not enough? See more at this (link in new window):

List of international fried treats.

And last but not least...
{30 sec}

Gee, dogs really do love donuts... ;)

Dogs Vs Cats

The real difference between cats and dogs?
Its in their TV viewing, of course.

Dogs watch Animal Planet...

{14 sec}

Cats watch the news...

{20 sec}

Which one is smarter? Well...

thats still up for debate... but at least the cat ran away.

Fresh Take on Old Spice

I have a confession.
I mute all TV ads, even for shows & products that I like.

But rules were made to be broken, and
for these Old Spice ads I made an exception:

*first 12 secs appear normal...
{30 sec}

Quick visual tricks and nonsense? = worth viewing.

Now here's
'Behind the Scenes' as they film a new one

... all in *one* take:
(in the first minute)

{3 min}

If they go to that much trouble, I'll pay attention.
Even if I have no idea what that 'spice' smells like.

Now, a non-Spice, but still fun: NY Fest winner, 40 sec

All for fun, & TT's Spice day.

Tinsel Toots

What happens if kitty sets off the metal detector at the airport? Do they x-ray the poor thing, send it home, or ...?

But just in case you don't care to worry about that,
here's one version of how tinsel first appeared:
The tradition of using tinsel when decorating a Christmas tree is said to have come from the story of a poor woman in Germany who had no decorations for the little tree she found for her children.

The tales goes that during Christmas Eve spiders in the tree wove webs around it and covered it with white strands. A local holy man passed by the humble home and saw the poor family's little tree decorated by the spiders. He said a blessing over it and the house.

By Christmas morning, the spider web strands had magically turned to silver and glistened on the sunlight to the delight of the poor woman and her children.

OMG, the plot for 'Tinsel Town's next 'Spiderman' movie.

Count to 300

...and you'll number all my posts so far.

So, for fun, lets peek at these other '300's.
;-)

{54 sec} *nice syncronization - lol at the :19 mark.

{90 sec} Beware of Lego-s with 5 o'clock shadows.

The movie '300' was a dynamic flick,
but it did take itself a tad too seriously.

I'll try not to make that mistake.

Bringing Sexy Back

I was tagged in Miss C's challenge:

'What makes you feel sexy?'

her pic, not mine - sorry ;-) Can't argue with her choice of sleeping in the buff.

But additionally, music puts me in the mood.

So for fun, here's a 'bad' vs 'good' comparison...

First, The Baaad:

*houstonpress*s 'Rocks Off' list.

They insist their ten (below) were chosen by a woman for a sexy night in. Ha, sorry guys, no fem would pick these unless she's a goth:

1) Street Hassle, Lou Reed's dying hooker? Seriously?
2) Libertango, : an accordian version?!... o so not hot.
3) Summertime, Joplin: her voice in this? - not sexy.
4) Superstar, SY's cover of an old 70's song -drags-.
5) Empty House, Air's 'Virgin Suicides' track drags too.
6) Sea Song, Doves: dull for a party of two.
7) The Operation, Charlotte G: a dissection song? Ew.
8) Inertia Creeps, Massive Ak: Repetitious & 'slowly'
9) Closer, 9 Inch Nails: FU like an animal? Charming.
10) Gabriel's Mercy Street 'perfect for drifting off' ??
- Nice tune, but lyrics of suicidal Anne? - Um 'No'.

On the whole, their songs are quite depressing.
My guess? A dateless old geezer picked'm.

comments from their own page:

played some of these with my wife ...
She gave me a 'wtf r u listening to?' look.

tried it and she went cold with the Lou Reed.
She up and left with the Janis Joplin...

When... hotel porn music just won't do

Holy balls, what a terrible list

If my man started playing this crap,
I'd have my clothes on by the end of song 1
)

Now here's my more upbeat list:

'The Good',

or 'Some Songs I'd Pick Instead'.

1) Of Peter Gabriel's music I'd pick In Your Eyes*
'* 'boom box' song from movie 'Say Anything'

- - Hm. - I'll just go with more movie songs...

2) remake: 'Anyway You Want It'
movie - Charlie's Angels Full Throttle ;-)

3) 'Take Me Away ' yes, from 'Freaky Friday'*
*included because it makes me laugh, and after that other list I needed a bit more humor.

4) 'Sky and Sand' from movie 'Berlin Calling'

5) 'Haan Tu Hai'(You Are The One) in 'Jannat'

6) 'Seasons of Love' from 'Rent'

7) 'Check On It' Beyoncé/Pink Panther movie fun

8) 'How Did You Know' from movie 'All My Life'

9)Hot Chocolate's You Sexy Thing in 'Full Monty'

10) oldies: 'NeverEnding Story' by Limahl
Included because I like the flow of his song.

plus this, because I like the video:
Billy Idol's Cradle Of Love in 'Ford Fairlane'

(Was Lady Gaga's 'Poker Face' in a movie?...)

So, anyway, that's my version of
Bringing Sexy Back... w/ snappy songs.

Everyone Needs An Outlet

click to see the -entire- wall of outlets
*click* pic to see the -entire- wall of outlets.

quote: ''...artfully plug in your appliances wherever the cords look pleasing to you. Imagine no more crowded outlets or multi-plug adapters.

... you don’t have to actually wire all the outlets on the whole wall for electricity, but you’d better come up with a good way to remember which ones are live.''
(No $h!+)... but loved some of the comments:
'know how they say you shouldn’t plug too many cords into the same outlet? This is the exact OPPOSITE of that'

'eliminates need to choose between wallpaper patterns'

'Baby proofing this would be a bitch'

'arrange the other side of the wall to have a mini windmill for every socket...'

'one spilt drink away from an electrical fire'

'illuminating the room by nightlights into those!'
LOL...

Puts the Ick in Lick

Tired of good taste & nutrition?...

Its 'Jelly Belly' Pudding

*credit for pic from Mr. C's lol Grossery list - check it out.
click HERE for 'Popcorn' + 'Blueberry'
Inspired to research this after seeing it on Mr. C's site...

'Requires no refrigeration'. Hm. How would pudding made with actual milk & eggs look after months on a shelf?

Some brave souls (av club video) actually ate some:

Taste: Jelly Belly puddings ranged from ridiculously sweet to shockingly horrible. Is it any wonder that most of our Taste Testers had to hold their noses while consuming the popcorn pudding?...

...to make things more exciting, we mixed up a “suicide” of all flavors for IES DaveC. -Guess what?- The suicide actually tasted better than any of the individual flavors. And it was beautiful while mixing, though the final product looked poopy.
Isn't there a quote that goes something like:
'If it looks like poo, & tastes like sh!t, its probably...'

I Can't Walk Last

Natalie Portman tells all
'' ... with you you a road for running about.''

Lucky Padme cleared that up for us, yes?

But truly, even non-Star Wars fans should check out Jeremy's blog. He posted 80+ screenshots from his (obviously bootleg) Chinese copy where they'd helpfully added their own 'Englsih' subtitles.

Trust me, his page is well worth a look, I only saw that film once, years ago, and I still laughed like a loon.
link: 'Backstroke of the West' (Revenge of the Sith)

Hayden C. is equally eloquent.

* many thanks to Jeremy W. for these pics.

See? I promised you a long fun link today.
Please enjoy your Memorial Day as I head to work...
