Clara, 93, cooks brunch from her Depression-era childhood, to celebrate ThemeThursday.
hint:
- Gruel ?.... 'No'
- Coffee ?... 'Yes'
"First thing we're going to make is sugar cookies"
('What?'...)
Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't that.
Had to try them, so I made a one-third batch:
1 large egg (lightly beaten)Verdict: 'Okay' - they did all disappear by 6pm.
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
pinch of salt
Rolled out using more flour.
Then cut into turd-like shapes
- and put on ungreased pan.
350' F oven, for ~ 16 min
(would be better with vanilla +/ spices)
Had to lol, tho. Coffee & two kinds of sugar cookies.
Nutritionist's nightmare, but 'hey' Clara's still here!
warning - The longer you let them sit around however, the more they become Depression-era tooth-breakers.
so, 'Flapper Biscotti', anyone?
p.s.
notice (at 2:57) there's a donut bag on her counter!
Well! If Clara is still kicking at 93 after eating these biscuits all these years then she has a good thing going! Think I shall have cookies and coffee for breakfast tomorrow!
ReplyDeletemmm...cookies and coffee for breakfast! i love when little old ladies cook breakfast...they know what they are doing...
ReplyDeleteWhat is good for Clara is good for me!
ReplyDeleteI’m up right HERE
Good for her! I hope I look as good and am as sharp as Clara when I'm 93.
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show a little sugar goes a long, long way.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that! Cookies and coffee for breakfast is my way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteI love Clara; she's wonderful. What great stories too. Now, the cookies look as if they definitely need something though, vanilla, as you suggested, or nutmeg, or lemon zest. But Clara, she has zest of her own, perhaps that's why she didn't add any.
ReplyDeleteid be glad to eat anythign at 93! :)
ReplyDeleteClara sounds like a pistol. Wonderful TT post because you captured some fun. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh. Goodness.
ReplyDeleteI made Clara's Poorman's Meal once. It was cheap hot dogs and potatoes. It was uninspiring, filling and not very good. Perfect Depression food.
